Intro:
Events and initiatives launched by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove forests as a natural and robust barrier for coastal communities. They serve as strong supporters of biodiversity and ecological balance, in addition to their high efficiency in carbon sequestration and combating the impacts of climate change.
The events, which were launched in conjunction with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem 2024, included awareness programs and volunteer opportunities in several regions of the Kingdom. They also highlighted the efforts made by the Center in this regard by proposing projects to plant 13 million mangrove trees in the coastal areas of the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea, in line with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and Saudi Vision 2030.
