The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Carbon Registry (ICR) to strengthen mutual cooperation and collaboratively establish and develop a framework for a program focused on nature-based solutions in the Kingdom. This initiative aims to contribute to the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative, in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes active collaboration and effective engagement with local and international private sectors.

The agreement outlines joint efforts to strengthen nature-based solutions, including afforestation, mangrove restoration, and establishing regulatory frameworks aligned with international best practices. Additionally, the partnership will focus on capacity-building initiatives designed to equip stakeholders with the necessary tools to manage and implement climate projects effectively.

This collaboration is expected to yield significant outcomes, including enhanced carbon sequestration, increased biodiversity, progress in combating desertification, improved water conservation, and new economic opportunities for local communities.

The International Carbon Registry (ICR) plays a pivotal global role in facilitating projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, advance carbon capture initiatives, and promote sustainable development. ICR ensures adherence to international standards and best practices when certifying carbon credits.

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) is committed to protecting, restoring, and sustaining vegetation cover while highlighting its vital role in maintaining the balance of natural ecosystems. The NCVC focuses on raising public awareness about the importance of vegetation cover and addressing key challenges, such as illegal logging, overgrazing, and other harmful activities that threaten the environment.

The NCVC adopts state-of-the-art technologies and comprehensive strategies to monitor and protect vegetation cover areas, ensuring early detection and effective management of violations, including illegal logging and unregulated grazing. The center is dedicated to conserving natural resources, enhancing biodiversity, and ensuring the sustainable use of these resources for the benefit of future generations.

Moreover, the NCVC plays a pivotal role in forging robust partnerships at the local and international levels, collaborating with various sectors to address pressing environmental challenges. These partnerships aim to reduce carbon emissions, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and improve community quality of life, aligning with the ambitious goals of the Saudi Green Initiative. By integrating scientific research, innovative solutions, and community engagement, the NCVC leads impactful efforts toward a more sustainable future.
